My name is Aicha Lahlou and I am the founder of Colour Lit. I’d love to start off by telling you a little bit about myself. I have a makeup artist background and a passion for making people feel beautiful! Before I was able to begin the journey of creating my own brand, I had to conquer a particular set of challenges and fears. It all started a year and a half ago, I decided to pull the trigger and pursue my dream of starting my brand. In 2012, I decide to pursue a career path outside of the cosmetics industry. I soon realized that I was missing the self-expression and artistic creativity that I enjoyed prior when I was working in the cosmetic world. Although I still managed to freelance, it was not enough for me to genuinely feel that I was maintaining my connection with makeup. It was from there that I really had a strong desire to create my own brand. I found myself to be keenly interested in product development and connecting with others. My interest was so sustained and consistent that I thought about it on a daily basis.
However, as we are all aware, we can be our own biggest critics and often hold ourselves back from taking action to realize our dreams or to chase opportunities that we yearn for. My greatest fear was opening up and putting myself out there. The thought of failure was crippling to me and it served to debilitate me. As a result, I sat on my feelings for years until I had my twins, who are the light that shed so beautifully on me, that I could no longer deny my destiny. My desire to do better, be better, and not be complacent ignited a force in me. Although I was scared of my journey, I also realized that it was my calling. I knew it at the end of 2015, which was when I decided to commence my research into this endeavor. In January 2016, after educating myself on components, packaging companies and labs, I made an appointment to meet with the packaging distributor and lab right away. That initial experience solidified it for me; I knew this was what I was supposed to be doing.
At the end of the day, I want everyone to know that anything is possible and we must be our own cheerleaders. Without a doubt, I believe the connection that individuals have with beauty is a strong bond that leaves love marks on their hearts. It is innate in the heart of human beings the desire to feel beautiful. It’s my hope that Colour Lit finds a place in everyone’s heart.
